When Standard Doesn’t Cut It

Not every garage door situation is a 9×7 steel residential door and a standard torsion spring. Some homeowners need 14-foot clearance for an RV. Others want floor-to-ceiling glass panels for a modern home gym. Commercial shops need heavy-duty steel and industrial-grade hardware. These applications require different knowledge, different spring calculations, and often different track configurations entirely. We’ve worked on everything from standard residential doors to massive commercial-scale glass installations.

What We Work On

Specialty Door Types

Full-View / Glass Aluminum Doors

Aluminum-framed panels with tempered glass or polycarbonate inserts. Increasingly popular for home studios, gyms, workshops, and contemporary homes where natural light and aesthetics are the priority. The critical detail: glass panels are significantly heavier than steel. A 16×8 full-view door can weigh 400–600 lbs. Spring sizing is not optional — the wrong spring system on a glass door is a safety hazard. We size these carefully, and we’ve done it at commercial scale.

RV / Tall Vehicle Doors

Standard residential doors max out at 8 feet. Class A motorhomes need 12–14 feet of clearance. Accommodating tall vehicles requires a high-lift track system (which routes the door horizontally along the ceiling rather than immediately above the opening) or a vertical-lift system. The spring, cable, drum, and opener specifications are completely different from standard doors. We handle it — and we’re one of the few in the area who do.

Commercial & Heavy-Duty Doors

Farm shops, commercial garages, and small business bay doors demand heavier steel gauge, commercial-grade tracks, and larger spring systems. Consumer-grade hardware doesn’t hold up under daily commercial use. We spec and install components that match the actual workload.

Custom Sizes & Non-Standard Openings

Older homes often have rough openings that standard door sizes don’t fit. We’ve worked through unusual headroom constraints, oversized openings, and installations where standard track configurations simply don’t apply. If you’ve been told your application is unusual, reach out before assuming it can’t be done.

Why Experience Matters

Specialty Doors Require Specialty Knowledge

The physics of a 500-pound glass door are fundamentally different from a 150-pound steel residential door. The spring wire diameter, drum configuration, cable length — all of it must be calculated and sized correctly for the specific door. A technician who learned on standard residential doors and installs a glass door with the same approach is guessing. We don’t guess.

If our online estimate tool doesn’t fully capture your situation — which is likely for specialty applications — reach out directly. We’d rather have a real conversation than give you a price that doesn’t fit the actual job.
